About Transformative Engineering
NORWOOD, MA -- Transformative Engineering (T-E) manufactures and sells the audio, video, and data communications devices that are essential elements in the construction of high-end residential and commercial entertainment systems. While these devices may not be as glamorous as the big brand-name video displays and exotic AV processors, they are in many ways more essential to the overall performance and quality of the installed system.
As Transformative Engineering enters its second year, the company is already delivering two market-leading products that have been well received by custom installers and systems integrators. In addition, several distributors have also purchased these products for relabeling under their own brand names. Transformative Engineering's line includes one of the first applications of the increasingly popular HDBase-T standard, which facilitates the cost-effective distribution of a variety of video, audio, and multimedia data formats across large residential and commercial structures.
When Transformative Engineering's founders first evaluated many of the common-use audio-video-data interface devices used in residential and commercial entertainment systems, they immediately recognized an opportunity. Many of these devices offered mediocre quality and performance, and did not address practical needs of custom installers and systems integrators. T-E's founders saw a need for a range of new products with improved device integration and performance. The solutions they envisioned would be based on the use of new technologies, top-quality parts, superior build quality, and recognition of how these products are used in the field.
"Our products are designed for custom installers, by custom installers," said Jay Trieber, President, Transformative Engineering. "While most similar interface devices available to custom installers work okay, they do not present the ultimate quality and levels of fine-scale performance expected for high-end custom installations. We knew there was a 'better mousetrap' to be made, and that the results would be in high demand within the CI and SI marketplaces. We recognized that our individual talents were tailor-made for the task at hand, and that we should proceed with plans to transform how certain products are designed, manufactured, and brought to market."
In addition to Trieber, the other two founders of Transformative Engineering are Peter Tribeman, Vice President of Marketing, and Engne Tang, Chief Technology Officer. Each brings a different perspective and skill-set to T-E while remaining as full-time presidents of their other companies.
In addition being the president of Transformative Engineering, Jay Trieber is also the President and CEO of Home Theater Concepts, a 'Tier-one' systems integration company specializing in residential and commercial custom electronic installations, and one of the largest such firms in New England. He is also President and CTO of The Service Bench, Inc., a major repair service provider for high-end electronics in the consumer and commercial fields.
Peter Tribeman, serving as Vice President of Marketing for T-E, is also President of Atlantic Technology, President of Outlaw Audio; and also an Audio Board Member of the Consumer Electronics Association. Over the years, Tribeman has founded or led many of the famous brands in the industry, including Proton and NAD (USA) Electronics, in addition to Atlantic Technology, and Outlaw. In the early 80’s Tribeman assembled a team, including Dolby Laboratories and LucasFilm, to demonstrate the world’s first home theater employing surround sound.
Engne Tang, T-E's Chief Technology Officer, is also the President of VAC-com, Inc., a prime OEM producer of components and finished products since 1993. Many brands within the electronics industry source product from his associated factories. “Tang”, is also the co-founder of Sherbourn Technologies. His vast experience in electronic design and the ability to source the best components bring the most cost effective method of manufacture to this new company as well.
Trieber continues, "This combination of talent – from identifying the needs of the market, to the ability to realize and fabricate the product efficiently, to achieving sales levels only available to someone with national, decades-long relationships – will result in a new benchmark for a supply chain. This is why we believe 'Transformative' is the correct term. The fact that our products utilize our custom-designed transformers in their circuitry is an additional meaning."
T-E's First Products
OB-1 Omni Balun -- As an example of T-E's creativity and method, the company's first product is a small, essential component of today’s Custom Electronics Installation industry. In the past, to connect two or more video or audio components, one would run appropriate wires between the two. As we entered the High Definition Video age, those wires needed to become more robust, and consequently, more expensive. Running hundreds (even thousands) of feet of these types of wire in houses had become prohibitively expensive. An engineering breakthrough was made whereby inexpensive, “CAT5” wire could now be used in place of the expensive High Definition wire. All that was needed was to convert the wire at each end with a device called a "balun." These “baluns” are essentially transformers that convert the signal so it can be run along the inexpensive CAT5 wire, and then converted back again, retaining the essential High Definition resolution.
Although using this approach to wiring a home is now the standard for most installation companies, T-E felt that there could be a better application of this method, as well as more effective pricing. With some clever engineering and inspired creativity, T-E has designed the OB-1 Omni Balun, an advancement of this technology that revolutionizes its use. It is a product of extremely high quality, beautifully crafted, and highly sought after. Our model offers multiple benefits for the installer, and for mass distributors.
HD-1 HDMI Extender -- Transformative Engineering's second product is the HD-1, an active HDMI-to-CAT5e/6 (UTP) extender with full functionality of the latest HDMI version 1.4a features, including 3D and ARC (audio return channel). The HD-1 is designed around a new technology called HDBase-T ™, which allows for reliable conversion of HDMI signals over long lengths of UTP wire. The future capabilities of HDBase-T ™ are expected to dramatically change the way most video components are connected.
As Transformative Engineering moves forward, the company has several other innovative components in various stages of product development.
"We are very enthusiastic about the future of Transformative Engineering," said Trieber. "The custom installation and systems integration marketplace has many openings for the kinds of innovative and high quality products similar to those we are already producing. The fact that several significant distribution firms have purchased our products for rebranding is a testament to the validity of our company's mission."
