San Francisco (4/22/02) --- Parasound has introduced the
Halo P 3 stereo preamplifier for use in premium two-channel music systems
and multi-room audio systems. With design assistance from the legendary
John Curl, the P 3 has a totally new design based on the new Burr Brown
OPA2134, Curl's choice of IC based on low distortion, high speed, and
low noise. Like all of the new Halo products, the P 3 has an attractive,
silver finished front panel that represents a dramatic departure from
the companys traditionally conservative styling.
The Halo P 3s performance is remarkable for its excellent
response and almost non-existent distortion, as reflected by its rating
of 10v output with less than .008% THD, 5 Hz -100 kHz frequency response.
The P 3 provides switching for six line inputs including
one that is switchable for a moving magnet phono input, and two direct
inputs (one unbalanced, one switchable between balanced and unbalanced).
This means users dont lose an input if they dont have a turntable.
In addition, there is an external processor loop, and two parallel line
outputs one RCA and one balanced XLR.
The P 3 has a massive power supply with a large, steel-encased,
epoxy-potted toroidal transformer. A double-sided FR4 board provides a
superior ground plane to reduce noise, and there is a ground lift switch
to eliminate ground loop hum problems when rack mounting. The power can
be switched from 115 to 230 Volts for international markets.
This preamplifier is designed to work well in a stand-alone
system, or as part of a complex audio system that can integrate with home
automation systems via its RS-232 control port. There is an external IR
input and loop output jack, and a 12v DC trigger connection and loop output.
The front panel control buttons are illuminated and glow
brighter when they are pressed. It features a vacuum fluorescent display,
defeatable bass and treble controls, and its CNC-machined knob is
a precision electronic volume control with custom brass bushings for longevity.
The front panel also has a high-resolution stereo headphone connection
and an illuminated power switch. The remote control operates the Halo
T 3 FM/AM Tuner as well.
The Halo by Parasound P 3 audio preamplifier will be available
from Parasound retailers in April, with a suggested retail price of $800.
Halo by Parasound was introduced in 2002 as a performance
and design-conscious step-up from the companys Parasound Classic
product line. Founded in 1981, Parasound Products, Inc., is a privately
owned U.S. company that specializes in providing affordable audio and
home theater components to the critical listener.
