MINNEAPOLIS (6/20/06) -- Canton has introduced
its largest, most accurate, and best performing loudspeaker to
date. The Canton Vento Reference 1 DC is designed to showcase
the company's remarkable advances in loudspeaker engineering,
modeling, and testing over the past decade. By combining the ultimate
in achievable sound quality with peerless aesthetics and craftsmanship,
this $30,000 per pair system ranks with the world's finest loudspeakers.
"The Vento Reference 1 DC was
designed by a five man engineering team over the course of three
years, " comments Canton's head of engineering Frank Göbl.
"This is intended as a definitive statement - the ultimate
expression of Canton's design philosophy and manufacturing capabilities.
The results have exceeded our highest expectations, and we feel
confident that it is one of the finest loudspeakers the world
has ever heard. "
The Canton Vento Reference 1 DC is
a large 3-1/2-way floorstanding model that stands 56.3-inches
tall, 15-inches deep, 22.2-inches wide, and weighs 194 pounds.
The cabinet walls are over an inch thick (28 mm) and are constructed
from seven layers of acoustically inert fiberboard, pressure laminated
one at a time into a remarkably sturdy monocoque structure. Internally,
the cabinet is separated into four isolated chambers, allowing
for optimal matching of internal volume to each individual driver.
The lowest of these chambers, housing the large bass transducers,
is a bass reflex design, with a port that is precisely flared
at both ends, and open to the cabinet's bottom for outstanding
bass response linearity with virtually no port noise at any sound
pressure level.
The Vento Reference 1 DC employs a
sophisticated 3-1/2-way design that makes optimal use of its five
drivers. Deep bass is handled by a pair of 12-inch aluminum cone
woofers, which have a linear excursion range of 2-3/8 inches (60
mm) for exceptional response and power handling. There are two
seven-inch aluminum midrange drivers vertically flanking a single
ADT-25 aluminum-manganese tweeter. The lower of these seven-inch
drivers reproduces the entire midrange spectrum from 180 Hz -
3kHz, while the upper driver is active only from 180 Hz to 400Hz
to supplement output in the demanding mid-bass range. This arrangement
takes advantage of the increased power handling, response, and
efficiency of using dual mid-bass drivers while avoiding the unwanted
cancellations and off-axis anomalies that occur when using this
arrangement in the upper midrange.
The Canton Vento Reference 1 DC loudspeaker
is currently available in real wood veneer finishes of cherry
or maple, or with a hand rubbed silver piano lacquer finish. It
has a retail price of $30,000 per pair.
Canton is the largest manufacturer and best-selling
brand of loudspeakers in Germany. It was founded in 1973 by a
