Minneapolis (7/08/03) – Canton has expanded their popular
new CD line of aluminum-body loudspeakers with the introduction
of the CD 100 tower, the vertically or horizontally oriented CD
50, and the compact CD 10 mini-satellite. Building on the success
of the company's recently introduced Movie CD 1 home theater speaker
system, the new models feature the same striking silver aluminum
styling and advanced driver and crossover design to deliver stereo
and home theater audio reproduction that perfectly balances form
and function.
Unlike many mini-satellite speakers, the Canton CD-10 employs
engineering and design advances in driver, circuitry, and cabinet
design to deliver a frequency response of 80 Hz to 25 kHz from
a speaker that measures just over 5-inches tall, and under 4-inches
deep and wide. Among the advances that allow this feat are a new,
proprietary 3-inch aluminum woofer, high-integrity aluminum housing,
a 3.9 kHz crossover network, and a sophisticated passive filter
circuit which blocks unwanted low-frequency signals that can generate
harmonic distortions. The CD 10 has a suggested retail price of
$125 per speaker.
The CD 50 and CD 100 speakers each incorporate the same drivers
as the CD 10, but with a total of four of the 3-inch mid/bass
drivers flanking a single tweeter, one pair on either side. Canton
engineers have designed an unusual "two-and-one-half-way"
crossover circuit to prevent the problematic mid-bass cancellations
that hinder performance in typical multi-woofer speakers. With
this circuitry, one pair of drivers handles both bass and midrange
frequencies, while the other pair is responsible only for bass
reproduction.
Like all the CD speakers, the CD 50 is magnetically shielded,
and can be mounted horizontally for use as a center channel, or
vertically as a stereo or surround speaker. The CD 100 is intended
for use as a vertical 'tower', and stands nearly 40 inches tall
atop a weighted aluminum baseplate for stability. Thanks to its
larger, ported cabinet, it boasts an extended low bass response.
The CD 50 and CD 100 have suggested retail prices of $300 and
$500 each, respectively.
The Canton CD-series speakers are finished in striking aluminum
with perforated silver metal grills, and may be matched with any
of Canton's AS line of active subwoofers for a complete home theater
or satellite-subwoofer system.
Canton is the largest manufacturer and best-selling brand of
loudspeakers in Germany. It was founded in 1973 by a group of
audio enthusiasts who defined their mission "to always develop
the finest loudspeakers in their class." For more information
