Canton Debuts Two New Systems in its CD Speaker Line

Canton Movie CD 4.25

Canton Movie CD 2.22

LAS VEGAS (1/8/04) -- Canton has expanded their popular CD line of aluminum-body loudspeakers with the introduction of two new 5.1-channel speaker packages. The Movie CD 4.25 and Movie CD 2.22 systems each unite five striking silver aluminum satellite speakers from the company's CD series with a powerful subwoofer for home theater and multichannel music reproduction that perfectly balances form and function.

Each system employs a pair of CD 100 floorstanding tower speakers for the crucial front left/right channels, and a CD 50 horizontal center channel. These speakers each incorporate a total of four of Canton's proprietary 3-inch mid/bass drivers flanking a single tweeter, one pair on either side. Canton engineers have designed an unusual "two-and-one-half-way" crossover circuit to prevent the problematic mid-bass cancellations that hinder performance in typical multi-woofer speakers. With this circuitry, one pair of drivers handles both bass and midrange frequencies, while the other pair is responsible only for bass reproduction.

The Movie CD 4.25 system uses a second pair of the CD 100 towers for the surround channel duties, providing a seamless soundstage that completely envelops the listener. The Movie CD 2.22 substitute a pair of CD 10 minispeakers for surround duties, which feature one each of the same midrange and tweeter drivers found in the larger models, but in a housing that is just over 5-inches tall, and under 4-inches deep and wide. The CD 10 minispeakers can be mounted on the wall with the included brackets, or on the optional LS 65 speaker stands.

For deep bass reproduction, the Movie CD 4.25 features the 150 Watt AS 25 SC powered subwoofer from Canton's acclaimed AS line. This model features a 10-inch Cellulose/Graphite cone and benefits from Canton's exclusive SC Technology, giving it excellent deep bass response and very low distortion. The active SC electronic filter is integrated into the onboard amplifier circuit, and computer-designed to adjust the response curve to compensate for the acoustic characteristics of the housing and driver. This both blocks unwanted infrasonic signals, which can cause distortion from excessive driver excursion, and improves the speaker's output response curve across the frequency range. The result is a frequency response that pushes all the way down to 22 Hz and provides tight and linear bass up to 150 Hz. The adjustable crossover frequency, level control, and switchable phase adjustment can all be used to tailor the integration the subwoofer and satellites in nearly any room, and with any source material.

The CD 2.22 employs Canon's AS 22 SC powered subwoofer, which features the same SC technology as the larger AS 25 SC, but in a 120 Watt version with a 9-inch woofer. The subwoofer boasts a frequency response of 25 Hz – 150 Hz in a compact, bass reflex enclosure.
All of the Canton full range CD-series speakers are finished in striking aluminum with perforated silver metal grills. All are magnetically shielded, and can be mounted near video displays without picture interference.

The Canton Movie CD 4.25 and Movie CD 2.22 speaker systems are currently available at suggested retail costs of $2,899 and $2,049, respectively.
