Tesla Roadster to be Shown at Blaupunkt Booth at CES

Blaupunkt digital amplifiers provide high performance audio with low electrical power consumption.

The 100% electric Tesla Roadster

LAS VEGAS (1/07/08) -- The Tesla Roadster, the first high performance electric sports car, will be shown at the Blaupunkt booth at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 7-10. The development team at Tesla Motors has been working with Blaupunkt's engineering staff for the past two years to optimize the audio systems for use in an electric vehicle.

The all-electric Tesla is a two-seat 245 horsepower roadster that can go from zero to 60 miles per hour in under 4 seconds and reach a top speed of 125 mph. The 100,000-mile life lithium battery can be charged in 3.5 hours off house current, and has a range of about 245 miles on one charge, which is equivalent to about 2¢ per mile or 135 miles per gallon. Tesla Motors expects to deliver 50 cars in the first quarter of 2008, followed by an additional 600 cars for the remainder of the year.

"The obvious goal here is to provide state of the art autosound performance without significantly reducing the range of the vehicle," said Andy Oswick, General Manager, Blaupunkt USA. "While basic in-dash radios do not use much power, high performance multiple speaker sound systems do. Achieving this level of sound performance while still consuming a minimum of electrical power is made possible by the extremely high efficiency of Blaupunkt's THA digital amplifier technology. Blaupunkt is no stranger to this sort of collaborative product development. The company has manufactured over 135 million car audio systems over the past 75 years, and a large percentage of these were factory installed by many of the world's most prestigious car makers."

The pre-production Tesla Roadster exhibited on the Blaupunkt booth will be equipped with Blaupunkt THA PnP (plug and play) digital amplifiers for high output with low power consumption.
