DENVER (9/5/07) – Atlantic Technology, one of the longest-standing
and best-respected manufacturers of home theater loudspeaker
system, has launched two new in-wall loudspeakers systems designed
for outstanding home theater and music reproduction. The IWTS-7
LCR (In-Wall Theater Systems) and IWTS-14 LCR speakers include
several unusual design and convenience features, including low-resonance
MDF front baffles, a unique set of acoustic adjustments for
optimal integration in any room, and grille/frame assemblies
that are sold separately to simplify installation and preparation
in large installations and new construction.
"The IWTS-7 and -14 are the result of us rethinking in-wall
speakers from the ground up" comments Atlantic Technology
president Peter Tribeman. "We started by tossing out the
idea that in-walls were a compromise, and committed ourselves
to holding our in-walls to the same acoustic standards we have
for freestanding standing speakers. In the end, these in-walls
deliver outstanding home theater and music reproduction, blend
transparently into any décor, and have features that
make them easier to install, set-up, and adjust to fit the room
they're in."
The first major departure of speakers from conventional in-wall
designs is in the baffle construction. While most in-walls use
low-cost plastic baffles that are prone to resonance, Atlantic
has designed the IWTS-7 LCR and IWTS-14 LCR with sturdy, low-resonance
MDF baffles - the same material used for the cabinets in the
company's acclaimed freestanding speaker systems. This provides
the drivers with a more solid footing, ensuring that the speaker's
acoustic output is directed cleanly into the listening area
rather than dissipated as panel vibration.
Additionally, both the IWTS-7 LCR and IWTS-14 LCR speakers
have three acoustic controls to allow installers to tailor performance
to the listening room. The first of these is Atlantic’s
exclusive DVC™ (Directional Vector Control), an innovative
circuit that adjusts the direction of the tweeter’s midrange
output up or down electronically, without the mechanical and
acoustic compromises of a 'pivoting' tweeter assembly. Secondly,
a High Frequency Energy switch is used to adjust tweeter level
for rooms that are acoustically bright or dull. Lastly, a Boundary
Compensation toggle can be used to adjust the upper-bass/lower-midrange
output to compensate for the sound colorations that occur when
the speaker is placed near a ceiling/wall intersection. Each
speaker also includes an IR knockout, making it simple to integrate
remote IR sensors into the speaker front plates.
Both the IWTS-7 LCR and IWTS-14 LCR speakers use Atlantic's
exclusive Low Resonance Tweeter (LRT™), which handles
a greater portion of the audible spectrum than conventional
tweeters. This extended range of the tweeter improves midrange
dispersion for better dialogue reproduction and soundstage development
than conventional in-wall designs.
The IWTS-7 LCR uses a single 6-1/2-inch long-throw woofer with
a GLH (graphite-loaded Homopolymer) cone for excellent power-handling
and deep bass reproduction. The IWTS-14 LCR includes two of
these same drivers in a 2-1/2-way design that maximizes bass
reproduction without sacrificing accuracy in the upper bass
and lower midrange. The increased power handling and output
of the System 14 speakers make them appropriate for larger rooms,
while the System 7 speakers are best suited to small and medium-sized
listening environments.
For simplified installation, the frames, grille, and cabinet
of each speaker are sold as separate pieces, making it simple
to install and paint the frames and grilles first, adding the
speaker assembly once finishing is complete.
The Atlantic Technology IWTS-7 LCR and IWTS-14 LCR speakers
will be each available in October. The IWTS-7 will have a suggested
retail price of $385 each ($325 for the speaker and $60 for
the separate GFR-52/7 Grille/Frame assembly.) The IWTS-14 will
have a suggested retail price of $515 ($450 each for the speaker
and $65 for the GFR-525/14 assembly.)
