Atlantic Technology has launched its IWCB (In-Wall Closed Box)
line of architectural speakers for home theater custom installation.
The speakers' unique designs feature completely sealed enclosures
for improved performance, yet still mount as simply as conventional
open-air designs. The line is ready for immediate shipment, and
consists of three models employing either 5-1/4 or 6-1/2 inch
woofers, soft dome tweeters, and a trio of ingenious acoustic
controls for integration with any listening environment.
"Our In-Wall closed box speakers are the best of both worlds,"
commented Atlantic Technology President Peter Tribeman. "They
combine the high end performance of our freestanding speakers
with the invisibility and simple installation of our in-wall speakers,
eliminating the acoustical and aesthetic compromises that characterize
most home theater systems."
The IWCB line consists of three models, each featuring Atlantic's
new LRT (Low Resonance Tweeter) design, allowing the 1-inch soft
dome tweeters to handle a broader portion of the sonic spectrum
for wider dispersion throughout the listening area. The IWCB-626
employs a high–power 6-1/2-inch GLH (Graphite Loaded Homopolymer)
cone woofer, while the IWCB-525 and IWCB-52 each feature 5-1/4
inch GLH woofers. For the IWCB-525 and IWCB-626 models, a second
diaphragm, identical to that used in the woofer, is mounted as
a bass pressure driver for improved linearity and extended bass
response.
Additionally, each IWCB model includes a trio of acoustic controls
to allow installers to tailor performance to the listening room.
The first of these is Atlantic’s exclusive DVC™ (Directional
Vector Control), which is used to direct the tweeter’s radiation
pattern electronically without having to resort to clumsy mechanical
swiveling devices. Secondly, a High Frequency Energy switch is
used to adjust tweeter level for rooms that are acoustically bright
or dull. Lastly, a Boundary Compensation toggle can be used to
adjust the lower-midrange output to compensate for the sound colorations
that occur when the speaker is placed near a ceiling or side wall.
Each speaker also includes an IR knockout, making it simple to
integrate remote IR sensors into the speaker front plates.
For simplified installation, the frames, grille, and cabinet
of each speaker are separate pieces, making it simple to install
and paint the frames and grilles first, adding the speaker cabinet
once finishing is complete.
The Atlantic Technology IWCB-626, IWCB-525, and IWCB-52 speakers
are all currently available at suggested retail prices of $950,
$800, and $600 each, respectively.
