NORWOOD, MA (6/07/06) – Atlantic Technology
has begun shipment of the ICTS–6LCR, the company's first
ceiling speaker designed for use as the front channels of a
home theater or high quality audio system. Thanks to its unique
broad-frequency tweeter design and subtly angled bass driver,
the ICTS–6LCR gives installers and consumers the ability
to use ceiling mounted front channel speakers without sacrificing
performance.
"While I have always been a fan of traditional
box speakers for great home theater sound, more and more homeowners
are demanding ceiling speakers for aesthetics and practicality,"
comments Atlantic Technology President Peter Tribeman. "I
challenged our engineering team to design a ceiling speaker
that was truly different and better than the compromises available
to installers today, and they rose to the occasion. The result
of their efforts is the ICTS–6LCR, a speaker I wouldn't
hesitate to recommend for even the most demanding home theater
installation."
Conventional ceiling mounted speakers, which
direct midrange and bass signals straight downward rather than
toward the listener, are ill-equipped to develop the clear and
precise imaging that front channel home theater applications
demand. While a directional tweeter mechanism can compensate
for this in the upper frequencies, in most applications this
has no effect on the critical upper midrange that represents
most of the dialogue in a film. Atlantic has adopted a pair
of critical design evolutions to enable the ICTS–6LCR
to develop a complete, and clear soundstage without the mechanical
complication of elaborate twisting mechanisms and multiple,
expensive drivers.
The first of the ICTS–6LCR's innovations
is a specially vented and heat-sinked version of the company's
1-inch silk dome tweeter that extends down well into the upper
midrange, crossing over at 2.2 kHz to cover a wider portion
of the sound spectrum than any other in-ceiling speaker currently
available. The tweeter can also be pivoted for even greater
control of soundstage development, and a front-mounted three-position
tweeter level control allows for precise tailoring of the speaker's
behavior to the acoustical characteristics of the theater room.
Secondly, the ICTS–6LCR employs a heavy-duty
6-1/2-inch woofer that is angled 15 degrees toward the listener,
further improving directionality in the lower midrange band.
The driver is constructed of Mica/Graphite loaded polymer, and
is capable of reproducing bass signals down to 52 Hz.
The Atlantic Technology ICTS–6LCR utilizes
an advanced computer-optimized crossover, gold-plated heavy-duty
connectors, and simple rotating clamp mounting system for easy
installation. The woofer baffle is coated with a special sound-absorptive
rubberized paint to prevent unwanted sound-smearing reflections.
The grille and frame may be painted to blend in perfectly with
the room's decor.
The ICTS–6LCR is now shipping, and has
a suggested retail price of $450 each.
